Over the last five years, one weekend in September, the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ has brought people together from all across the City to sample food from around the world, watch a classic movie on a big screen, and listen to some great local music as part of its ManyFest event series. This year ManyFest will be taking place September 9-11.
Tens of thousands of people will flock to Downtown Winnipeg to sample Filipino chicken adobo, Caribbean ceviche con tostones, and Serengeti chicken in addition to many other foods of the world as part of the Food Truck Wars.
In 2015, more than two-dozen of the city’s food trucks lined the streets to see if foodies would vote their truck best bang for their buck, or the People’s Choice Winner. The same will be happening this year with 30 Food Truck fighting over the title.
Last year, KYU Grill took home the People’s Choice Award as Best Food Truck. Kyu Grill is known for their Heroshima, a sub bun stuffed with your choice of meat skewer and Japanese toppings. Popular options include the Mango, Noriyaki, and the Pork Belly. They are returning to ManyFest this year to defend their title.
For Families with young children, The BIZ brings in play structures, sandboxes, face painting stations, as well as an arts and craft table for children to experience. The MiniFest Kid’s Zone is located on Broadway and is an accessible, all-inclusive and fun filled experience for everybody, regardless of how old they are. However, make sure you watch out for all the little tigers, butterflies, and foxes running around and playing with one another.
For the older crowd, once the sun goes down, the fun ramps up as the Wine and Beer Garden fills up with thirsty people who are ready to sample wines from all over the world. In the background, local bands draw patrons into the streets to listen to their sets and more often than not, people can be seen spinning, swinging, and twirling the night away underneath the stars.
Finishing the weekend on a high note, ManyFest brings a massive, inflatable movie screen to Memorial Park for hundreds of onlookers to watch a movie. This year Jungle Book will be playing for the people in attendance. Make sure you bring a blanket to lie on or lawn chairs to sit in while you relax and enjoy the film.
