Nigerian Community honours Immigrant Centre at their Independence Celebration

At a recent gala celebration organized by the Nigeria-Canada Congress of Manitoba (NICCOM), Jorge Fernandez, Director of Settlement, was very proud to receive an award on behalf of the Immigrant Centre.

Prof. Wole Akinremi of the soil science department at the University of Manitoba; and Prof. John Momoh, a surgeon, were also honoured with community achiever awards at the event held in honour of the 54th anniversary of Nigerian independence.

Provincial Minister Flor Marcelino attended in full African attire and special greetings from federal Heritage Minister Shelly Glover; Manitoba Lt. Gov. Phillip Lee; and Mayor Sam Katz were read at the event. They all congratulated the three award recipients for serving the community selflessly and they also sent goodwill messages to all Nigerian-born and Canadian members of NICCOM.
