Volunteer of the Month: Shreya Jhunjhunwala
Shreya Jhunjhunwala came to Winnipeg from India 3 years ago. She had a degree in Fashion Design and worked in retail for a year before deciding to make a career change to study Creative Communications at Red River College.
For her first industry placement, Shreya really wanted an opportunity to work at a not-for-profit agency that helped newcomers, and the Immigrant Centre was a perfect fit. You see, the Centre will this year be celebrating its 70th Anniversary, and Shreya’s arrival could not have been timelier.
Over a three-week period, Shreya worked hard to create a video that celebrates the work that the Immigrant Centre has been doing to help newcomers settle in Canada. She interviewed and filmed staff, volunteers and clients, and put in countless hours editing and preparing the final product.
This spring, Shreya will graduate from Red River College with a Diploma in Creative Communications. We wish her all the best as she pursues a career in Public Relations and Communications, preferably for a not-for-profit agency. While her time at the Immigrant Centre was brief, Shreya’s work will certainly be enjoyed by many for years to come, and we look forward to showcasing her video creation in the coming weeks.
