Amy Wang

An employee and a volunteer!

Amy Wang has been an Immigrant Centre employee since 2007; however, she is also one of our dedicated Language Bank volunteers.

Amy first joined the Immigrant Centre as an intern from Red River College. Just weeks after completing her internship, Amy was hired as a part-time evening receptionist at the Centre.  A few months later, she became the full-time day receptionist, eventually moving up to her current position as an Immigrant Settlement Facilitator.

For the past two years however, Amy has assisted the Language Services Department as a translator for Mandarin. She can’t say exactly how many translations she had completed, but estimates that it must be hundreds of pages of documents.

“I want clients to feel that we’re efficient, that we’re here to help them and we have the services available for them” she says. “I also want to give back to the Centre and the community because I have learned a lot from the work that I am doing.”

Amy also volunteers within the community whenever she has the opportunity to do so. Recently, she volunteered for the Canada Summer Games, and has also been a volunteer for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, St. Amant Centre and the Chinese Community in Winnipeg.
